Requirements for a Religious Wedding:
If the couple want a religious ceremony for their wedding, they can do so at their Parish itself (canon1, 115). With a license of the Bishop or the Parish Priest himself can do it in another Parish.
Requirements:
1. Pre-marriage course: A assistance certificate is required. These courses are offered continuously in 9 parishes of the capital city. We recommend to take the course 6 months before hand.
2. Marriage File: It is the legal declaration of the couple befote the Priest and two witnesses (one for each), that knows the couple well and no relatives are allowed. We recommend to request a date two months before the date of the marriage. This is a legal must to prove the state of the couple before a valid celebration.
3. Documents that must be presented:
a) Baptism certificate of each (issued in the last 6 months). Must request the certificate at the parrish where you were baptized. In case that one of the couple were a foreigner, the baptism certficate must be updated and authenticate by the Bishop of their country.
b) Original and copy of the Civilian Marriage Certificate.
Dispensable Obstacle: If you suspect, or know of any irregular situation regarding marriage please let the Priest know with honesty in order to help you clear any doubts or problems. Some of the problems can be:
- Kindship.
- Affinity.
- Incapacity of true consent.
- Impotence.
- Age.
- Violence of serious fear.
- Currently married by the church.
There are pastoral norms in different parishes that are important to observe like: The temple´s decoration, type of music, etc. Talk with the Priest ahead of time on the details.
The wedding is not just a pure social act but a spiritual act among a couple full of faith, hope and love.
Marriages of other religious or cults you must contact an official or Priest in charge of the community whre you live or where you desire to carry out the marriage ceremony. The event will be held according to the regulations or the religious belief of each.
